Speaking at the meeting, Hashemi underscored the significant progress made in recent years regarding the provision of reliable communication and bandwidth during Arbaeen, a period marked by massive cross-border travel and spiritual gatherings. He stressed that further elevating cooperation between the two nations is essential to improve the connectivity experience of pilgrims and announced the dispatch of an Iranian delegation to Iraq to coordinate efforts with Iraqi officials and service operators.
Strengthening Technological Diplomacy
The minister highlighted the strategic priorities of his ministry focused on bolstering international partnerships under the framework of technological diplomacy. He pointed to the shared capacities of Iran and Iraq in serving as a critical transit route for international data traffic through Iranian infrastructure. Furthermore, Hashemi showcased the capabilities of knowledge-based Iranian companies and the growth of the country’s digital economy, identifying these sectors as fertile grounds for enhanced private-sector collaboration between the two neighbors.
Inviting the Iraqi ambassador to visit Iranian knowledge-based enterprises, Hashemi expressed hope that closer ties between the private sectors of both countries would pave the way for more active and joint participation in international markets.
Emphasizing Bilateral Synergy
Iraqi Ambassador Nasir Abdulmohsen Abdullah praised the robust and longstanding ties between the two nations, especially during the Arbaeen period, and described any effort to deepen bilateral telecommunication cooperation as constructive. He welcomed the minister’s proposal to leverage the expertise of Iranian knowledge-based firms and identified digital economy and cybersecurity as key areas for collaboration.
The ambassador also assured expeditious communication of Iran’s viewpoints to Iraqi authorities and expressed confidence that the Iranian delegation’s upcoming visit would help orchestrate an even more successful Arbaeen event than in previous years. He concluded with optimistic remarks about upgrading services this year for pilgrims compared to the past.
This dialogue, reflecting the growing emphasis on communication infrastructure as a backbone for cross-border religious and economic ties.
